Irish Wood Turners Guild, Letterfrack Chapter

The Letterfrack Chapter teaches and promotes the ancient craft of wood turning.

The Letterfrack chapter of the Irish Wood Turners Guild was established at the college in 2004 by a group of furniture design students who wanted to learn the craft of wood turning. The chapter is run by a committee of students and is specially aimed at students who have never turned wood before. In 2006 the chapter obtained premises outside the college in which to house wood turning lathes for the use of members during and outside college hours.

The chapter holds woodturning classes on weekly bases with guest turners invited to demonstrate. Members can use the lathes in the wood turning workshop when they have free classes and evenings and at weekends. The chapter welcomes members of all levels from beginner to advanced. Members not only become members of the Letterfrack Chapter but members of the nation wide guild of turners in Ireland.

"Wood turning is a great hobby to take up. Great satisfaction can be achieved when a rough piece of timber can be turned into a beautiful object. Turning wood is a great way to relieve the stress of college study."
Jason Clancy, chapter secretary
