Referencing System
Referencing is used to acknowledge the work of other authors in a
report. Even if you use the authors work more than once you must add
a reference for each statement of information. In other words it is
not enough to reference the author once and use their information
repeatedly in a report. A reference must be added to the main text
of the report and in a list at the end of the report.
References must be included in a report when using another author’s
opinions, theories, or data. Information from books, articles, the
Internet, magazines and other sources must be referenced.
The use of someone else’s work without correct referencing is
plagiarism. Plagiarism is falsely claiming someone else’s words or
ideas as your own.
The systems currently used for research in Letterfrack are the
Footnote System and the Harvard System. The system you use is not
important, but the correct and consistent use of one is important
i.e. do not use two systems in one report.
