College buildings

The buildings on the
campus at Letterfrack are a mix of the old and the strikingly new.
The old building was a part of the former, sadly notorious and
notoriously sad, Industrial School for boys, which closed in 1974.
In 1987 Connemara West started a small woodworking programme. in
collaboration with GMIT. New buildings, designed by the Dublin-based
architects O’Donnell + Tuomey, were added in 2002 to accommodate the
increasing student numbers. The new buildings are a timber frame
structure with green oak cladding, and won awards from both the
Royal Institute of Architects in Ireland and Architectural
Association of Ireland in 2001 and 2002.
