Visiting lecturers
During the academic year a number of designers/experts gave a
series of workshops and talks. They included:
Brian Murray:2 weeks of workshops on Marquetry and Design
Alan Tilbury: 1 week workshop on Introduction to Design
Dr. Patrick Walsh: Identification of Tree Species (Field trip in
Connemara National Park)
Visit and project with IT Carlow Industrial
Design
BSc. 4 Furniture Technology, Product Design carried
out a joint two week project on Sustainable Mass Production
Furniture with Carlow IT Industrial Design students.
Design Week 06-07
Paul Hackett was on the winning team of the Dyson
Student Creativity Day run by the Institute of Designers in Ireland.
Habitat House and Home Student Design Awards
2007
David Beirne, a fourth year student in the BSc. Furniture
Technology, Product Design was runner up in the Habitat House and
Home Student Design Awards 2007.
National Skills Competition
Patrick J. Murphy, a second year Furniture Design and Manufacturing
student, beat off stiff competition in a tightly fought final to win
the National Skills Competition.
Awards
Sinead ni Dhomhnaill, a fourth year student in the BSc. Furniture
Technology, Product Design was presented with a community award by
the VEC in May 2007 in recognition of her charity work. This
included 3 months voluntary work in Thailand, which was part of her
industrial placement for the degree programme.
Articles
An article about Letterfrack entitled "Designing on the edge of
Europe" by Jennifer Goff appeared in the Spring 07 issue of House
magazine.
